Zap wins 2003 Australian Design Award - May 2003

Abuzz has captured its second Australian Design Award - the Zap kiosk declared a winner in the category of Industrial Design. The annual Australian Design Awards recognise and promote the very best products developed by Australia's leaders in design and innovation.

"The judges were unanimous in the Zap being merited with an Australian Design Award," said Federal Science Minister Peter McGauran, who presented the award at the Melbourne Town Hall.

"Good attention was paid to fitting components into the available space" and the Zap also exemplified "nice use of manufacturing process to meet cost and low-volume production requirements, without sacrificing finish quality".

"The Zap is reflective of Abuzz's continued commitment to excellence in design" said CEO Morgan Drew: "The traditional kiosk terminal was mired in stagnant, dull design," said Drew who had a vision of developing aesthetically pleasing, quality kiosks by replacing those uninspired products that have been around for many years. "The ZAP is an eye-catching kiosk with its super slim profile, alluring rear curves and contrasting finishes thus inviting people to walk around the unit as if inspecting the latest sports car".

"Combining the intelligent use of material with the latest technological innovations, the Zap packages a fully scalable PC operating system into one of the smallest and lightest kiosk units available on the market today. We are extremely honoured to pick up this, our second design award". Abuzz were prized with their first Australian Design Award in 2001, with their elegant Buz kiosk.
